Join our Development Forum

We are looking to bring together a group of unique, creative and committed individuals for our Development Forum, to guide and shape the programme for our annual conference, This Way Up.

Background

This Way Up is the annual UK film exhibition innovation conference that promises to inspire and enlighten, provoke and challenge.

With audience behaviour changing at an accelerating rate, it’s more crucial of This Way Up to provide a space where film exhibitors come together to discuss the pressing issues, to hear about new models, new thinking and new opportunities and to meet each other to share our experiences.

The event is organised and produced by Film Hub North and Film Hub Scotland and is a key part of the BFI Film Audience Network’s Member Support and Development programme. The programme is also supported by significant input from the other Hubs within the FAN and key partners of the network.

Having visited Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow and Hull in previous years, 2018 sees This Way Up go to Liverpool.

This Way Up Development Forum

We are putting together a group of up to 10 people to help us shape the content, format, aims and ambitions of This Way Up 2018 (and beyond).

We’re looking for curious, imaginative, inspiring, playful and engaged individuals from a range of backgrounds and with a range of specialisms. We’re looking for people with a passion; whether they be long-term professionals or volunteers doing it in their spare time. We are hoping for genuine, insightful, critical but constructive feedback from you and will be sharing information that is rough, raw, potentially unstructured or in early drafts so ask that this is kept in strictest confidence.

Who we are looking for:

  • People who work in film exhibition who feel they have a fresh perspective to offer on the This Way Up (and the industry as a whole)
  • People who are able to visualise the potential based on high-level ideas, unstructured plans or unsifted data

  • People from outside the sector but with an interest in film exhibition and an insight into what makes an industry event effective and impactful

  • We’re very keen to work with people from a range of backgrounds and lived experiences, so encourage people from under-represented backgrounds - young people, socio-economically diverse, disabled, BAME, LGBTQ+ - to apply.

Your commitment to us:

  • To support us in shaping a creative, vibrant and fresh programme for This Way Up
  • To attend the first development meeting on 6 September in Liverpool

  • To attend the second development meeting in either October or November

  • To attend This Way Up in Liverpool on 5th and 6th December

Our commitment to you:

  • Travel and out-of-pocket expenses covered

  • A two-day pass for This Way Up 2018

  • We understand many barriers exist for people wishing to take part in this type of group so can offer support for childcare, access costs and other costs you may need to be covered, please speak to us if you have any questions about this.
